Festival rules

Festivals are religious ceremonies. There are used llamas to bless its area, which has a high importance to Buddhist people. Visitors should be highly aware of its religious background.

A festival is neither a party nor a show and is not hold especially for tourists. Their process bases on tradition lasting for centuries. Unfortunately there were many occurrences in the past, when local people were treated in a discourteous manner by tourists.

Foreign visitors are welcomed warmly, however some rules have to be followed:

  • In the area of the ceremony eating, drinking and smoking is not permitted. Laughing out loud is inappropriate and impolite.
  • Taking photographs is permitted, however please do respect privacy. Please show consideration for spectators as well as for performers and keep appropriate distance.

It is inevitable to adjust behaviour, with that the privilege to be a part of those festivals as a tourist can be preserved. Unfortunately not every visitor considers it as a natural course of action.

Thank you for your understanding!
